No anti-theft features
GPS tracking can be used for fleet management and tracking, however, it is difficult to build anti theft features into GPS tracking systems, leaving them vulnerable to experienced thieves.
Global Positioning Satellites (GPS)
GPS tracking systems cannot work unless the aerial of the GPS tracking device can “see the sky”, this means if located with a building, tunnel or container a GPS tracking device will be unable to detect them. The Sure-track MT2 will work in any environment inside or out and is arguably the best covert asset tracking device on the market. It is difficult for GPS tracking devices to be covert as they require an aerial which is generally fitted in the same place and can be defeated by covering with baco-foil.
Wiring to power source
Sure-track MT2 is a self powered tracking device; its internal battery has a life of 3 years on standard configuration in good coverage. GPS asset and vehicle tracking devices are power hungry, constantly receiving GPS information. As a result GPS tracking system need to be wired to a power source which can easily be traced. When disconnected the GPS system battery backup will not last very long.
Lack of Portability and Re-installation
GPS asset tracking devices require permanent wiring and aren’t easily re-installed on another vehicle or asset. It is more convenient to stay with the caravan upon resale than take out and re-install. A GPS asset tracking device can take up to 1.5 hours to install where engineering time could be better spent elsewhere.
No Nationwide Recovery System
Sure-track MT2 provides a national recovery network which is capable of reaching any location in the UK within 1-2 hours. The police are called in to make arrests and reclaim the asset. GPS tracking systems rely heavily upon the police having resources and time to track the vehicles or plant assets and the recovery time can become overstated.
No European Infrastructure
Most GPS tracking companies do not have European language skills and overstate the availablity of police support abroad.
